Cities of art: Siena and Pisa

For those who come to Tuscany, appointments, which cannot be missed, are those with the cities of art. Less than two hours by car from our complex of spas and the farmhouse “La Cerreta”, there are some of the most important touristic Tuscan destinations, cities rich in art and history, famous all over the world for their beauty. Going north, you find Pisa, with its iconic leaning tower and the beautiful Piazza dei Miracoli.
Once the inevitable photo in front of the Tower has been taken, Pisa still offers a lot to those who visit it. For example a walk on the Lungarni deserves a bit of time, but also Piazza dei Cavalieri is an unmissable stop. Its Palazzo della Carovana, once home to the Knights of Santo Spirito and rebuilt by Vasari, is now home to the prestigious Scuola Normale di Pisa. Here you can admire the Palazzo dell’Orologio and the Church of Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri. For a stroll and to drink a nice coffee, Borgo Stretto is ideal, with its medieval archways.

If, however, you prefer to visit Siena with its medieval brick buildings, the right direction is towards the east. This city will amaze you with that “Siena” color that pervades most urban environments like a harmony. Some must-sees include; Piazza del Campo with its light and characteristic slope, the Palazzo Pubblico, and the Torre del Mangia from which you can admire a spectacular view, but also the Duomo with its black and white facade and the Baptistery are not to be missed. And for gourmets, you are spoiled for choice. Some advice? Cantucci, ricciarelli, cavallucci, panforte… Accompanied by the inevitable Vin Santo (dessert wine).
